Public Health Notice Issued for Residences Surrounding MacArthur Airport

If you live near the MacArthur Airport, you may have recently received a Public Notice from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) about the Inactive Hazardous Waste Disposal Site Program. The Inactive Hazardous Waste Disposal Site Program is New York State’s superfund program for identifying, investigating, and cleaning up sites where the disposal of hazardous waste may present a threat to public health and/or the environment.

This Public Notice informed the community that Long Island MacArthur Airport has been added to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation’s registry as a Class 02 site that presents a significant threat to public health and/or the environment.

We are sharing this information because the DEC notice requests that anyone with property adjacent to this site please share this information with your neighbors.

According to the Public Notice mentioned above, all site-related/health-related questions can be directed to the New York State Department of Health (Bureau of Environmental Exposure Investigation) and all project-related questions can be directed to the New York Department of Environmental Conservation (Division of Environmental Remediation).
